I ran/aerobic-walked 9779 aerobic steps this morning. I just discovered this new feature on my pedometer. It only counts the steps when the frequency is higher than 60 steps per minute and the duration is longer than 10 minutes.

I jogged for a full hour, though the pedometer registers me having done 72 minutes of aerobic activity. I apparently burned 316 kcal or 23.5 grams of fat. I covered exactly 4 kilometers of distance though [livejournal.com profile] atomiks only guessed my stride length at 41 cm so I'm not sure how accurate this stuff is.

I'm thinking of going out again tomorrow morning but I'm not sure if I should be resting a day between jogs.

That's pretty impressive for just the morning, as many walking enthusiasts cite the '10 thousand steps daily' mantra (despite not showing the basis for this magically round number.

The next step is to figure out your average stride length while walking, jogging and running, so you can more acurately estimate how far you go each day.

I strongly suspect gadgets like pedometers and GPS can make even boring physical activities more fun for techy-savvy persons (aka geeeks or nerds).

Yes, that would be the next step. I'm hoping either my girlfriend or [livejournal.com profile] atomiks will be able to help me with this.

In your opinion, should I be going out for a jog every day, every second day or three times per week? I guess more is better but I'm wondering if I need to rest a day between jogs. Also, my crazy work schedule keeps me from going in the morning, which would be the ideal time for my metabolism.

I agree. The pedometer really motivates me to get out there. I'm not sure what to do in the winter when the land is full of snow. I can use the on campus gym for this year but beyond that I'm stumped. Oh well, I won't have to worry about that for a few months.

I rode through most of the winter. Slogging around in combat boots will just make it easier for you in the summer! You'll be used to swinging steel-toes at the ends of your legs, and you'll ensure that there's no lapse in training that you need to recover from in the spring.
