My latest post...

"I love books. Every year, I challenge myself to read a certain number of books. This year, I’m aiming at 25 books. While I love owning books, I am a heavy user of my local library and my city’s library system. You could say that I’m library people..."

My latest post...

"A friend sent me this article and I found it to be a really good summary of what is wrong with capitalism in the United States and in an increasing extent the rest of the world. However, its proposed solutions don’t completely address the problem. This isn’t surprising as the intrinsic problems with capitalism as a system aren’t easy to solve for..."

As I mentioned in my previous post (“A New URL for My Old Blog” … if you haven’t checked it out yet…go do it…I’ll wait…), I have started blogging again using emacs and org2blog after a long hiatus (the last actual post that wasn’t just a re-post of a link was two years ago). I mainly do this out of being a complete nerd rather than any sort practicality....

I've decided some months back to move my blog off off of the WordPress site and on to my own domain under the same title, The emporium of lost thoughts. At that time, I posted an entry, A New Url for My Old Blog, explaining my reasons for the switch.

I welcome you to follow me there as I will only post links to my new blog on this one in the future and only if I remember.

I will try to post links to any subsequent entries I have since written and published.

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.
